Greetings to our new ACSE students#
These pages contain useful information and advice for new students on the 2024/25 Applied Computational Science & Engineering Masters course within the Ada Lovelace Academy in the Department of Earth Science & Engineering at Imperial College London. Please read these pages carefully, and make sure you understand the tasks that we request that you perform before you arrive.

Access to the course Jupyterhub site#
Future ACSE students should have received an email containing a GitHub username. Once you have created a GitHub account with that name, you will be able to access a Jupyterhub instance here as an option to practise your Python coding by working through some exercises.
Before the course starts#
Before the course starts formally on 30th September 2024, future ACSE students should attempt to complete the following tasks:
Read through the pre-induction revison material regarding Python coding and mathematics.
Create your new GitHub account with the username sent to you in your email. Instructions for new GitHub users can be found here: The Github.com Website or in the email you were sent.
Work through the basic Python exercises we have create to reinforce your Python skills.
Work through the Software Carpentry lectures on git. See The git version control system for more information and links.
Work through the Software Carpentry lectures on the unix shell command line. See Working on the Command Line for more information and links.
